"Emily is an amazing speaker. After hearing her speech, which told her story, I guarantee; you will be inspired. Her speech has great form, and a great message, and it can't help but draw you in..."

- Louise Bark, Area G66 Director, Toastmasters International.

PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT MEETS DECOLONIZATION

I've loved "personal development" for as long as I can remember. I believe growing into the best version of our self is the highest form of service to those around us...

But something was always missing, although for years I was consciously unaware of what it was.

In 2021 I had an experience where my spirit informed me that I was neglecting my indigeneity and the ancestral healing I needed to do.

After I allowed myself to fully witness the ancestral pain I'd been "sweeping under the rug" and embrace my Indigenous roots whole-heartedly, everything changed.

There was just one problem...

The industry hadn't.

Once I was finally ready to face the ancestral healing I needed to do, as I tried to reconcile with my mixed ancestry (Mohawk, Algonquin and European settler) it was as if the world I'd fallen in love with suddenly fell completely flat.

I couldn't help but see how everything is taught through a colonial (often oppressive, exclusive and harmful) lens!

Since then, I've been on a mission to decolonize personal development space and help folks create safer, more inclusive spaces while embracing their own roots.

I'm also a firm believer that stories are medicine, and from time to time I share my story of living with Beals Syndrome, Scoliosis and Clubbed feet and working through body shame, mixed ancestry shame, and finding peace and joy through it all. Hear my body shame story, which I shared at a motivational speaking event here.

"I have had the pleasure of hearing Emily speak on two occasions. On both occasions, she displayed a combination of skills that, in my opinion, make for a very powerful speaker: vulnerability, strength, and the ability to inspire. I look forward to hearing her again!" - Lisa Browning, One Thousand Trees Publishing.

EXPERIENCE & AWARDS

Awards and certifications are colonial constructs but I do appreciate that you might be looking for credentials and experience.

In 2020, I was featured in James Wedmore's Top 13 Business Transformations, and in 2019 I was featured on The Manifestation Babe Podcast, a top 10 podcast, and in 2023 I was interviewed during prime time on CBC radio to share a piece of Indigenous wisdom!

I frequently guest speak on podcasts, personal development events and programs, workshops and University guest lectures where I love to discuss combining decolonization with personal development.

I am an active volunteer for Toastmasters International, where I have placed first at both my club speech contest (2020) and an area speech contest (2021).

In addition to speaking on others' platforms, I have hosted my own podcast The Soul's Way since 2020.
